Shaky start, Solid finish: VMCC Round 4
2010-08-16

Hi team!

Well I am back and recovered from a good weekend of racing at Manfeild for the the 4th round of the Victoria motorcycle club championship.

The day was a wet one and certainly added it's challenges, but it was a great day to get some good fast laps in and get a good set up on the bike in the wet conditions. Again I must put a big thank you to Robert Taylor (CKT - Ohlins), Hamish (Continental) and Chris (Ozzy Performance) for their assistance over the day, it wasn't a perfect day but they worked hard and we got it right in the end, so thank you!

I can officially announce I had my worst starts ever this weekend getting huge amounts of wheelspin and watching the field leave me behind, but I managed to claw my way back in each of the F2 races to take two wins. Poor Travis Merkel who qualified on pole for both races crashed out on the opening laps which was a real bugger as he had some great pace and we would have had great battles.

In the F1 races I had to forfeit one race due to a over pressured rear tyre which was cause by a faulty tire pressure gauge, but was quickly remedied for the the second race where Sloan Frost on the BMW S1000RR and I had a great race, I never did make a pass on him through out the race but it was great fun catching up through the infield. I tried a last lap passing maneuver but unfortunately couldn't pull it off, so settled for a 2nd place.

Overall the day was a great success and I really want to thank my forever loyal sponsors for making my racing a reality;

Success at Victoria Motorcycle Championship -Round 3
2010-07-18

After such a long time off the bike I was feeling a little anxious about heading back out onto the track. The weather was far less than desirable with a rather heavy down pour on Friday night.
I headed out for my F2 qualifying on wets. I'm not the greatest fan of riding in the wet let alone for a first ride in what felt like 6 months!! I took it very gently on the opening laps, the bike felt foreign and I felt very ridged but that quickly went away and I started to gel with the bike and track again. I was very pleased to see that I qualified in pole position with a best time of 1:16 which is not far off my best time in the wet. F1 qualifying was a bit drier but still required wets. Unfortunately the half wet half dry track wrecked the wets but still managed to gain 2nd position on the grid behind Sloan Frost on the BMW S1000RR. I was very happy with the way I was getting back into the groove of racing.
I had 3 races in both F1 and F2, I had great starts in all the races and got the hole shot and lead the F2 races from start to finish but I did have to miss one F2 race to make some changes to the shock to aid the development with the new TTX36 that we were running (Thanks to Robert Taylor for your help all day). The F1 races were great fun trying to hold the speed and power of Sloans BMW off for as long as possible. I finished 2nd in the F1 races.

Overall the day was a complete success in both results and getting the bike, suspension and tyres all working great!

A huge thank you has to go out to everyone to helped out this weekend and everyone that supported me from the sidelines!

Also a huge thank you to my loyal sponsors:

End of Season Result 4th overall in New Zealand 600cc Sports Production Title
2010-04-28

After an exciting championship with plenty of highs and lows I am pleased to say that despite two DNF's in the season and the challenge of appealing the alleged jump start at the Manfeild round (which we won!) we finished 4th over all in the championship.

Some of the highs include setting the new lap record at Manfeild Raceway. A lap record set by Chris Seaton (Aus) and has been standing for 4 years.

Also another High to take from the season was winning Three of the 10 races in the season. This was shared with James Smith who won 3 races and Nick Cole who won 4. It does show that despite some inconsistency due to being a rookie season when the team and I get things right we have the pace to win races.

Finally my personal goal this season was to finish in the top five and to finish 4th has made me very happy and I really look forward to improving on that next season.

A full summary of the season is to come but for now I would like to say to my friends, family, supporters and sponsors a huge huge thank you for you input and support over the season. It wasn't the perfect season but it definitely was a learning season and I can't wait to come back next year and put to use all this information that I have learnt.

Cheers,

-Sketchy (Glen)

Tainted Victory and a new lap record!
2010-03-02

Hi guys,

Skachill Racing had a almost perfect weekend at Manfeild this weekend just past, qualifying on pole position and being first across the line in both the races! Unfortunately we have had our results relegated due to an allegation of a jump start but this is in the process of being appealed so I will be sure to let you all know the out come of this!

A full report of the weekend is available in the Race Reports page and check the Photos page some great action shots from the weekend.

Better Late Than Never - Race Reports to be up very soon!
2010-02-23

Hi guys,

My sincere apologies for being so late with the update of my website.

The last month was a very challenging one for me in many ways. The South Island rounds were a real eye opener to the level of racing at national level, however I have learnt more than I could have ever expected to from my experience at the first three rounds and I am now throughly looking forward to the next two rounds and hopefully being able to put what I have learnt into practice.

The 4th round of the NZSBK is this weekend at Manfeild Raceway in Feilding so be sure to make sure to come along and witness what will be some amazing racing!

Cheers,

-Glen

First Round of the NZSBK Series, Wet 'n Slippery - Currently 7th in championship
2010-01-18

Well the first round of the NZSBK series has come and gone. It was a very challenging weekend for us with some very unfavourable conditions, we struggled with some unlucky choices with tyres but are happy with a solid start and are hoping to improve as the rounds go on.

I will have a report and some photos up soon so be sure to check back in soon.

Cheers,

-Glen

NZSBK Round 1 - Ruapuna Race Way - Qualifying.
2010-01-16

Qualifying for the first round of the NZSBK series is now completed but not without drama. The weather was very touch and go all day long, but fortunately the track just cleared up in time for our qualifying. Qualifying went well and we are sitting 5th on the grid. I am happy with the time we made with a best lap of 1:34.5 but still 1.1 seconds off pole position, but I am looking forward to the races and improving my position.

Cheers,

-Glen

South Island, here we come!

I am feeling a little anxious but hugely excited.

Suzuki International Tri Series Rounds 2 and 3, Wanganui and Taupo
2009-12-30

After what was brilliant opening round to the Suzuki Tri Series, rounds 2 and 3 were quite a bit more challenging.

Despite a couple of mistakes and general bad luck Skachill Racing still won the 600 supers class with a mere 1 point to spare.

I am happy with the progress we have made over the last two rounds and it has given me a great insight to what you need to do to win a championship so I am looking forward to applying this newly learned information to the NZSBK National series kicking off very soon!

Full reports from both Wanganui and Taupo are up. A few action shots are up in the Photos section, with more to come shortly.

Victoria Motorcycle Club Championship - Round 6
2009-10-26

A full report of the weekend is available in the Race Reports page and check the Photos page for some more great action shots from this weekend!

End of season wrap up

Darn, it's over already! I have had so much fun this season I didn't want it to end. The Vic club have put on an awesome race meeting all season and I have thoroughly enjoyed myself, I hope all the other competitors did as well, so a huge well done and thank you to the club and all the volunteers that make these meetings happen!

I want to acknowledge my sponsors and supporters for this series and take the opportunity to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their support as I would not have been able to do it without them!

Ozzy Performace – Chris Osborne

A huge thank you to Chris for his seemingly never ending support over the winter series. Both at and away from the track Chris has guided me and helped in every way he could and even when things were less than ideal he always made sure I could put myself in the best situation.
On top of that Chris always made sure my bike was running great and reliable, we did not have any DNF's in the F2 races

Continental – Hamish Laing (Mishy)

Thank you for his support and help at race meetings, it means a lot to me having your support and makes the day run so seamlessly with the extra hands and advice with the tyres. The Continental Race Attacks worked great all season long, I look forward to continuing my development with them!

Crown Kiwi Technical – Robert Taylor and Dennis

Again another big thank you to these guys! Over the series I have been fortunate enough to try some of the excellent Ohlins gear over the season and have been mightily impressed with the gear. The feel and feed back I receive from the bike is awesome. On top of that the service I received from Robert and Dennis was fantastic, and I couldn't have asked for more.

Skunkworks – Andrew and Leigh

Another thank you has to go to these guys for the awesome Skachill Racing website. It has become a very useful tool for getting information around and keeping people informed! Also, the amount of off the track support these guys give me is mind boggling. From transport, to making sure I have posters to give away, and even keeping me fed! I am very fortunate to have the support of such wonderful people and I am truly humbled by that.

And my other product sponsors:

Berik leathers
Sidi boots
HJC helmets
Spectro oils

I also want to take the time to thank Shaun Harris and his company Moto-Dynamix for their help in the first half of the season and the support they offered me.

Finally, I want to thank my family and friends for coming to the race meetings and supporting me! It is really awesome having you all there and I hope to see you all at future race meetings.
I can't wait for the next VMCC winter series, I am sure it will be just as great as ever!

Cheers,

-Glen
