Glen Skachill Profile

Intro

I am 19 years of age and I am currently finishing off my appretinceship in the engineering trade. I am Wellington born and bred, where I started my racing career.
In the last year I have made several remarkable improvements to my racing prospects, including setting four lap records and winning a New Zealand title.
Having recently won the Supersport (F2) class in both the Suzuki International Tri Series and also won the F2 class in the VMCC Series with nine consecutive race wins, and third in the Superbike (F1) class, both on the 600, I am extremely satisfied with my progress and am confident on continuing my vertical learning curve.
Given my current achievements and the fact that I am improving my results each time I get out on the track, I am confident that with the support of my team and the right financial backing I will achieve spectacular results in the up coming New Zealand Championships.

“I believe I have a natural aptitude to win and succeed”

Racing Aspirations

Team
With the assistance and support of my team and sponsors I can achieve great results. For my supporters I would enhance the teams brand and increase it's recognition for the benefit of my sponsors and team.

Commitment
I give my personal commitment to continually refine my sporting etiquette in order to improve my overall racing prospects and gain a deeper understanding of sports preparation such as nutrition, fitness and psychology. Using my talent, drive and the support of others in a professional manner to the benefit of the whole team.

Loyalty
I will continue to be loyal and supportive of the people and companies that have helped me get to where I am currently, and also nurture relations to further complement the teams success and future prospects.

Short-term Goal
To compete in the 2009 Suzuki Tri Series and the 2010 Castrol Power 1 Superbike National Series on board a Suzuki 600 Supersport machine. I would aim to achieve at least a podium finish in both series.

Mid-term Goal
To advance to a Superbike for the 2010 Suzuki Tri Series and the 2011 Castrol Power 1 Superbike National Series. I would aim to achieve at least a podium finish in both series.

Long-term Goal

Racing History

Buckets
In 2003 at the age of 13 I started racing small road race bikes in the F4 class, more commonly known as 'Buckets'. I very quickly fell in love with motorcycles and racing them, since that day have been determined to make a mark on the racing scene not only in New Zealand but also Internationally.

2001 Kawasaki KR150ZX
In 2006 I moved up to 150cc Streetstock bike, racing it at the VMCC Championship. I went well and adapted quickly to the higher speeds and larger tracks.

1997 Honda 125GP
At the end of 2006 I moved up to 125GP. I struggled the whole time in this class with second rate machinery as my racing was funded solely by myself. The bike, not only un-competitive but also unreliable, I still managed some highlights while riding the 125 with a few wins and trophies.

1991 Honda RS250
Coming into 2008 I sold my 125GP bike to earn enough to pay for one season in the Moto Academy NZ team riding the 250. The season went well with several goals being achieved, the main which was to learn race craft and tactics. We had some engine failures but also some real highlights. One of them was winning the Supersport race at VMCC round 4 against the larger and newer 600cc machines.

2006 Suzuki GSXR 600 - Ozzy450R
I was offered the opportunity to ride Chris Osborne’s remarkable “Ozzy450R” in the final two rounds of the 2009 NZSBK Championship. These rounds were real eye opener to the level of competition at National level, but also a great opportunity for me to grow as a rider. The two rounds went very well and we managed to pick up two lap records and a total for 3 wins and 3 runner up positions in the 6 races.

2005 Suzuki GSXR 600
Since purchasing the 600 in late 2008 I have competed in the 2008 B.A.D.D 3 Hour endurance race and the 2009 VMCC Actrix Winter Series winning both events. Since being on the 600 I have had a great season with nine consecutive race wins, with a total of eleven wins overall, and most importantly, have learnt an abundance about racing the larger 600cc machines.
